Rara

In November 2025, my family lost my grandmother after several years living with Alzheimer’s, leaving behind her devoted husband, known to us as Rara. This project came from that loss.

Grief is difficult to define and different for everyone. In the months that followed, I found myself thinking a lot about what it means to keep going after losing someone who shaped your daily life. Through this series, I photograph my grandad as he adjusts to living on his own.

The images focus on quiet, everyday moments and familiar routines, paying attention to small changes in mood over time. Alongside these, I have included family archive photographs, creating a connection between the past and present, and reflecting how memory continues to exist within loss.

The body of work moves through feelings of loneliness through to adjustment and reconnection. It looks at how someone can begin to move forward while still holding onto what they’ve lost.
